First day of football practice starts at midnight in Winfield

WINFIELD, Kansas – While most football players and coaches were sleeping, Winfield High School didn’t hesitate to hit the practice field at 12:01 a.m. Monday.

“This is my sleeping hour so, I mean I’m going to be as excited as possible tonight. Vikings, one two three Vikings!” said Will Adler, Winfield quarterback.

It was a complete showing of school spirit. Fans were in the stands and even the dance line performed.

“This is our third year doing this, it’s just something the colleges do. and it’s not breaking the rules as long as we’re after midnight and they, the kids enjoy it, so we just continued that tradition, it’s a tradition Winfield players have grown accustomed to,” said Justin Price, Winfield Football Coach.

The Vikings opening the season on Friday Sept. 5th against arch rival Ark City.
