NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — Norman police have released the name of a man who was wounded when he was shot by officers.

Capt. Tom Easley said Sunday that 44-year-old Jimmie Alfred Wheeler suffered what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries when he was shot Saturday. Wheeler was hospitalized with gunshot wounds to his torso.

The names of the two officers involved in the shooting have not been released.

Easley says the chase began about 12:30 p.m. Saturday when officers responded to reports of a suspicious person and vehicle and that the suspect drove away from officers before crashing the vehicle — then was shot.

Further details about the shooting were not released.

Easley said Wheeler will be arrested for eluding police and is wanted in Oklahoma County on robbery and firearms charges. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
