Derby buys new Macbooks for high school freshmen

DERBY, Kansas – Derby High School approved the purchase of 150 new Macbook Airs for the incoming freshman class this fall.

Each year incoming students are handed down laptops by the outgoing senior class.

But, school administrators realized that they have more students coming in than exiting.

“I think as enrollment fluctuates so do the numbers at the same time. So it doesn’t surprise me,” said Director of Technology, Matt Forney. “We already have a buffer in stock, and so we are just making sure we do have enough for incoming kids to make sure it’s taken care of.

Forney said the near $100,000 purchase will come from capital outlay funding.
