WICHITA, Kansas – They say that “art is medicine for the soul.”
On Friday, it became real medicine for a very real physical condition.
Stephanie Bergmann emceed tonight’s 5th annual “Art for Arthritis” auction at Crestview Country Club on Friday.
Each year, fifteen local children suffering from juvenile arthritis, a debilitating condition, are paired up with local artists to create works of art which are then auctioned off.
Organizers said it’s an under-served cause.
“We look at kids and they might be at the bleachers and we think oh they’re just shy they don’t want to play sports,” said an organizer. “They hurt. You think oh they’re not interested in class because they’re not taking notes. They hurt. Oh you know they’re not interested in their studies because they’re not carrying their books. It hurts to carry their books.”
The money raised goes to research to help find better treatments and ultimately a cure for juvenile arthritis.
