6:30PM It’s beautiful in Wichita this evening. We have a few clouds but still lots of sun left. A few small showers popped up East of Wichita, but have since died…also showers continue to dissipate in Northwest Kansas. Radar anytime here.

3:30PM Not too hot again this afternoon although a few areas have made it to the low 90s. Wichita isn’t quite that warm with a current temp of 87 degrees. Salina is the hottest area at 94.

8:00AM On this day in weather history: In 1986, exceptionally powerful severe thunderstorms hit Kansas and Southwest Missouri with hail that reached three to three and a half inches in diameter and 70 to 90 mph winds. The three and a half inch hail hit Coffey County where 18 people were injured while 3 inch diameter hail battered Barber and Kiowa counties. Winds around 90 mph ripped through Lyon County near Emporia and a 60 mph gust injured one in Morris County. The severe thunderstorms caused around $71 million damage.
