Over 100,000 birthday cards for Danny

FOXBOROUGH, Massachusetts – With the help of more than 100 first responders, Danny Nickerson celebrated his sixth birthday at the home of the Patriots.

“Cops for Kids With Cancer” helped set up the birthday bash at Foxboro’s Gilette Stadium.

Danny is battling a rare and inoperable brain tumor. But Saturday, the focus was on fun and family.

“It’s just incredible to take their time out from their lives and do something like this, especially for Danny,” said the boy’s godfather, Jeff Vendetti.

“It’s a very tough disease this poor little kid has, and we all feel for him,” said Boston Police Lt. David Murphy, a relative.

Officers brought more cards and gifts for Danny, who received more than 100,000 cards and packages this week.

Boston Police even delivered a special toy, his own police cruiser.

And what celebration is complete without cake and singing?

“The great thing about the law enforcement community is that when one calls, we all come, and we hope that we gave him a happy birthday and we hope that, at least for a couple of minutes, we gave his family some peace,” said Stoughton Police Deputy Chief Robert Devine.

But the surprises don’t end there.

Danny and his family also had the chance to catch some of the Patriots’ practice session.

Afterward, Danny got to hear ‘Happy Birthday’ once more – this time, from the Patriots.

The family says they are overwhelmed by all of the support. They say their basement is filled with cards, packages and toys. They say they are working on a plan to help share some of those gifts with other children in need of some joy.
