McPHERSON, Kansas – The Kansas Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash that happened on I-135 two miles north of McPherson Thursday afternoon.

Troopers say the first vehicle was moving to the inside lane, when a car behind it struck the car and rolled several times into a ditch.

The car that rolled into the ditch caught on fire.

Witnesses were able to get a passenger out of the car, however that person was pronounced dead on the scene.

The driver of the burning car never escaped.

They are identified as 70-year-old Gary Walter Pautz and 69-year-old Kay Dianne Pautz of Alexandria, Minnesota.

A female driver and child from the first car were injured, but the extent of the injuries are unknown.
