Building in downtown Kingman collapses

KINGMAN, Kansas – A brick building in downtown Kingman collapsed around 2:45 Thursday afternoon.

It happened in the 100 block of North Main.

City officials say the building was vacant at the time of the collapse and are investigating what caused it.

A demolition crew from garden city that is already handling a job near Kingman will handle clean-up and begin at least a partial demolition of the building.

“It’s a private building that is owned by a private individual we have been in contact with and will be working with, but we will be monitoring the situation. we’ll have a police officer out there to ensure no one is going around the building.” said Emily Graf, Kingman City Manager.

No one was injured in the collapse.

KSN found out the building was constructed in 1887. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
