Good Samaritan saves baby from hot car

MOLINE, Illinois (KWQC) Police say a mother left her 6-month-old baby unattended inside a hot car for more than 20 minutes in Moline, Illinois Tuesday.

“I was just appalled that someone would leave a baby in a car in this heat by itself,” said Carrie Ortiz, who called 911.

She was running errands when she parked next to a car with an unattended baby inside of it.

“I was shaking,” said Ortiz.

She said she called 9-1-1 right away, worried for the child’s safety.

“I looked at the car doors and I opened it up, and that’s when the baby turned around and looked at me,” said Ortiz. “It looked like he was sleeping at first . . . and then that made me even more nervous that somebody left these car doors unlocked.”

The mother of the child was arrested for Child Endangerment.
