DNC raises almost $9M in June, cuts debt to $3M

WASHINGTON (AP) – The Democratic National Committee has narrowly outraised the Republican National Committee last month and cut its debt to just $3 million, down from a onetime high of $23 million.

Financial forms that were due Sunday state the DNC raised almost $9 million in June. The RNC, meanwhile, said Sunday that it raised $8.5 million.

The DNC has about $7.8 million in the bank. The RNC has roughly twice that, at $14.4 million.

At the end of July 2012, the DNC reported almost $4.8 million in red ink, but that number ballooned to a high of almost $23 million in March 2013 as donors tired of giving after opening their wallets for President Barack Obama’s re-election bid.

The RNC is not carrying any debt.
