Cooler temperatures harm pool attendance in Wichita

WICHITA, Kansas – Wichita has had some unusual weather this summer, with temperatures dropping into the 60s, forcing some local pools to drop in attendance.

A downturn in attendance has had a negative financial affect on some businesses like the Indian Hills Swim Club.

Man“We are a membership only pool, but even our most solid member aren’t coming out when the temperatures get below 70 to 80 degrees,” said Manager Chris Anderson.

Anderson says they rely on membership fees and sales at their concession stands to stay afloat, but that last two months has forced them to cancel classes and pool parties, eventually causing them to lose a few hundred dollars.

Members say they are just glad the sun stayed out long enough to enjoy the weekend.

“I’m glad that its back in the 90s again. You know we suffered all that weather last weekend,” said Bobbie Santana.

The Indian Hills Swim Club says it plans to extend some of the hours to make up for lost time when school starts.
