WICHITA, Kansas – The Sedgwick County Animal Response Team, or S.C.A.R.T., is helping to vaccinate pets during Project Care.
Project Care happens three times per year, and it gives a chance for low income or homeless pet owners to get their dogs a free wellness exam.
Veterinarians also give the proper vaccines, along with new collars, leashes, and toys.
S.C.A.R.T started up after the 2007 greensbug tornado..and specializes in finding and taking care of pets in need after damaging storms.
“We’re practicing all of the intake information getting all their info into the computer so we’re running a simulation on the way that we would normally during a disaster,” said Dr. Jan Hinshaw, S.C.A.R.T. member.
S.C.A.R.T. offers animal response training for its volunteers.
Those volunteers aided several natural disasters situations since forming seven years ago.
