12-year-old leads police chase in stolen SUV

STANTON, Kentucy (WLEX) – A 12-year-old boy is facing several charges after police say he stole his grandfather’s SUV in Powell County, Kentucky.

Stanton police got a call just before midnight about a reckless driver at Pine Creek Apartments.

Police said a 12-year-old boy stole his grandpa’s Chevy Tahoe.

Officers caught up and were led on a high speed chase through Stanton.

Once police confirmed they were dealing with a juvenile, they continued to follow him across the county

As the juvenile turned around to come back out, police said he went off the roadway to avoid police, flipping several times into this culvert.

Authorities said he suffered minor injuries and was taken to Breathitt County Juvenile Detention Center.

The boy is being charged with theft of the vehicle, wanton endangerment and fleeing and evading police.
