Man makes first appearance in stolen truck death

WICHITA, Kansas – A man was charged Thursday with first-degree murder in a stolen truck death.

On Sunday, 25-year-old Shawn Palmer died after being thrown from his father’s stolen truck.

It happened early Saturday morning in the 3900 block of South Meridian at the Quik Trip.

Police say the two brothers realized their dad’s Ford pickup had been stolen.

They spotted it at the store on Meridian and MacArthur Road.

Both brothers confronted the suspect, but he sped off.

Both brothers were holding onto the truck, and both were thrown off and injured when the suspect took off.

Police said that Palmer died from his injuries on Sunday.

On Thursday, Edward Martinez Ladish, the man allegedly driving the stolen truck that ran over Palmer made his first appearance in Sedgwick County Court.

He was charged with felony first-degree murder or in the alternative second-degree felony murder, aggravated robbery, aggravated battery, and theft.

Ladish’s bond has been set at $250,000.

His preliminary hearing is set for July 27th.
