Man in critical condition after aircraft machine accident

WICHITA, Kansas – A worker for Spirit AeroSystems was taken to the hospital in critical condition Thursday evening.

According to Wichita dispatch, the man was smashed between two pieces of machinery.

The 53-year-old man was responsive and his injuries are not considered life threatening.

Spirit AeroSystems released this statement Thursday evening:

We did unfortunately experience an injury on the shop floor at Spirit tonight. Just after 9:00 PM, Spirit and Sedgwick County emergency services responded to a report of an employee caught between some machinery. The employee sustained injuries and was transported to a local hospital.

Spirit takes the safety of our employees very seriously, and we have begun investigating the incident. We do not have any additional information at this time.

Spirit AeroSystems said that they started the day refreshing workers on the importance of safety measures.

They are also investigating the case further to determine if there is a need to alter safety measures in the work room.
