NEWTON, Iowa – Soaring to speeds over 200 mph, Wichita State University’s logo is featured on an IndyCar competing this Saturday at Iowa Speedway. The WSU Shocker emblem will be prominently displayed on Wink Hartman’s car at the Iowa Corn Indy 300. Top drivers including Helio Castroneves & several others will try to take the checkered flag on the .875-mile tri-oval.
It’s also an educational opportunity for WSU. Car owner Wink Hartman says, “What we’re going to be doing that’s so exciting to me is bringing 6,7, maybe 8 engineering students from the college to the actual race. And they’ll be able to be in the garage, touch the car and talk to the mechanics.”
Hartman adds, “Wichita State is going to be the lead sponsor, if you will along with GoWichita, House of Schwan, Jimmy’s Egg, Hartman Oil, Direct Supply, Hurco, Mort’s Martini Bar, and Chester’s Chophouse. Beyond that, Envision is going to be on the car this year. So we’re really excited about the opportunities.”
The Hartman-Fisher car is driven by Josef Newgarden. Saturday’s race can be seen on cable’s NBC Sports Network.
