Recent rains replenish holiday fun at El Dorado Lake

EL DORADO, Kansas – Thousands of visitors made their way to El Dorado Lake this Fourth of July.

The 8,000 surface acres of water would have accommodated hundreds of boats over the weekend.

El Dorado Park estimates between 55 to 60 thousand people would have visited the lake by the end of the holiday weekend.

Park Manager Seth Turner says he doesn’t know what to expect, but he is glad that it has been quite and safe.

So far there have been no drowning or injures and no arrests.

Turner says the recent rain has made a huge difference in getting people out to the lake, and a huge difference in the water.

“Most of last summer we were 4-5 feet low on the water level and people just were here,” says Turner, “This year we’re 8-inches above the conservation pool.”

Turner says that there were close to 150 boats on the water, with close to 6,000 people watching fireworks.
