Immigrant influx: the push for action

SAN DIEGO, California (NBC News) – Activists in Southern California rallied Wednesday in support of the thousands of children fleeing nations like Honduras and Guatemala.

The show of support comes one day after protesters blocked buses carrying undocumented immigrants apprehended in Texas to California holding facilities.

The people on board are now in other holding facilities near San Diego. Several dozen of them are being quarantined with health concerns.

As border patrols struggle to accommodate the flood of people fleeing Central America, immigration activists are asking Congress for sympathy.

“We want these kids to be able to seek asylum cases. They are fleeing a war torn country,” says immigration activist Irvis Orozco.

Democrats say inaction in Congress will only intensify the problems along the southern border, but Republicans aren’t budging.
