WICHITA, Kansas – Ruthie Bell was sentenced Wednesday for the death of her daughter, Jakara Dickson, last July.

The judge granted Bell three months probation. If she violates her probation, a judge could sentence her to serve 75 months behind bars.

Dickson and her two siblings were left alone when she accidentally started a fire in the family’s home.

The other two were treated for smoke inhalation.

Neighbors rescued the siblings, but Dickson died of her injuries.

Bell believed Adrian Johnson was going to watch the girls.

Last month, he pleaded guilty to three counts of aggravated endangering a child, two counts of possession of controlled substances, and one count of possession of control substances.

He is still awaiting sentencing.
