Police identify weekend shooting victim

WICHITA, Kansas – Officials have identified the victim of an early Saturday morning shooting as 20-year-old Juan Orona, a documented gang member.

Homicide detective Lt. Randy Reynolds, Wichita Police Department, reported that the argument began over people showing up to a party uninvited.

According to police, members of two gangs showed up at the party.

A man is dead and a teenager is injured following a shooting Saturday morning.

Officers were called out to the 900 block of South Cypress for reports of a large party causing a disturbance. When they arrived, they found a 20-year-old man in a car with a gunshot wound to the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The second victim was found inside the home with a gun shot wound to the chest. He was taken to Wesley in serious condition.

Darian Koehne is a nearby resident and has lived on the street for five years.

Koehne says he moved to the area because he thought the neighborhood was pretty quiet.

“I hear a lot of stuff in the distance and stuff from other neighborhoods, but no I’ve never seen anything close to this, I’ve got three kids and I don’t like hearing this at all,” said Koehne.

Police say they are searching for Ruben Higadera in connection to the case. Higadera should be considered armed and dangerous. If anyone has information on his whereabouts they are encouraged to call the Wichita Police Homicide Department at (316) 268-4181 or Crime Stoppers (316) 267-2111.
