WICHITA, Kansas – K-State alum Aaron Watkins carded a 7-under-par 63 Thursday afternoon to take the first-round lead in the Air Capital Classic.

Competing at Crestview Country Club, Watkins didn’t have any bogeys in the openining round. He birdied the first and fifth holes on the front nine. The Florida native also had birdies on five of the first six holes of the back nine.

Two-time champ Brad Elder and Ollie Schniedarjans finished with 6-under-par 64s to capture a share of the lead early, before Watkins surged up the leaderboard.

2013 Air Capital Classic champ Scott Parel is four strokes back, after closing out with a 3-under 67.
