BUTLER COUNTY, Kansas – Geofrey Nyangweso, of Wichita, entered a plea of not guilty to charges of mistreating a dependent adult Monday.

Nyangweso used to work for Victoria Falls Nursing Facility in Andover.

The state fined the home thousands of dollars over alleged patient abuse, and Nyangweso was terminated.

Nyangweso’s preliminary hearing is set for August 11th at 2:30 p.m.

He was released on a $50,000 bond.

Nyangweso had to surrender his passport to his lawyer.

Last month, the Kansas Board of Nursing has began the process of revoking his license. It continues in July.

The Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services said last month it had cited Victoria Falls for failing to meet certain regulations and failing to investigate some abuse complaints.

A department inspection showed at least two of the 63 residents suffered verbal and physical abuse, including one targeted by at least four staff members and another who had been abused by another resident.
