LEWISTON, Minnesota (KTTC) – An 80-year-old man has survived being trapped for several hours in a grain bin south of Lewiston, Minnesota.
Crews rescued John Daley from the bin just after 2 p.m. Thursday. Daley’s injuries appear to be non-life-threatening. Lewiston Ambulance transported Daley to a Winona hospital as a precaution.
Crews tied a rope around Daley to keep him from sinking into the corn which was above his chin, then used special rescue tubes they recently trained with for the first time to complete the rescue.
They also cut a hole near the bottom of the bin to pump the corn out.
A neighbor at the scene said Daley went inside the bin while an auger was running and got his foot stuck.
Brand said Daley remained conscious during the rescue.
