Five rescued after driving through high water in Ellis

ELLIS, Kansas – Five people were rescued Wednesday night after driving through high water in Ellis according to Ellis Police Chief Taft Yates.

Five people were in a 2004 Toyota Land Cruiser trying to get a look at Big Creek.

They went to the low water crossing east of the dam.

When they drove through the water, the vehicle started to be swept away.

Three of the five people inside the car were able to get out by themselves.

The other two had to be rescued by Ellis fire crews.

No one was seriously injured.

The Ellis area received up to five inches of rain according to the National Weather Service.
