WSU’s Casey Gillaspie selected 20th overall by Tampa Bay in MLB Draft

SECAUCUS, New Jersey – In the first round of the 2014 Major League Baseball Draft, WSU’s Casey Gillaspie is selected 20th overall by Tampa Bay on Thursday.

Gillaspie was recently named a first team Louisville Slugger All-American by Collegiate Baseball. The junior first baseman from Omaha, Nebraska hit .389 with 50 runs, 15 doubles, one triple, 15 homers, and 50 RBIs with the Shockers in 2014. He also earned Joe Carter Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year honors and was named first team All-Valley.

Fellow Missouri Valley Conference player Kyle Freeland of Evansville was selected #8 by Colorado and LHP Brandon Finnegan out of TCU was picked 17th overall by the Kansas City Royals. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
