KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) – A top officer of a New York City-based organization that promotes women’s equality worldwide has been named new president and chief executive officer of Planned Parenthood of Kansas and Mid-Missouri.

Planned Parenthood says Laura McQuade will begin her new role early next month. She replaces Peter Brownlie, who stepped down at the end of March after serving as the chapter’s top administrator since 1999.

Planned Parenthood of Kansas and Mid-Missouri board chairwoman Jackie Johnson says McQuade was chosen after an extensive national search.

McQuade has been chief operating officer and executive vice president at the Center for Reproductive Rights in New York for the past six years. Johnson says McQuade has a history as an organization builder, reformer and women’s rights advocate.
