Man dead in officer-involved shooting in McPherson

MCPHERSON, Kansas – Authorities say 56-year-old Timothy Ronald Lloyd of Kanopolis died Wednesday in an officer-involved shooting.

It happened at 1 p.m. Wednesday.

According to the McPherson Police Department, a hit-and-run collision happened in the intersection of Maxwell and Kansas Ave.

The suspect vehicle fled southbound to the 1900 block of South Maxwell.

Officers responded to the scene, and officials say Lloyd was located outside of his car.

“The suspect (man) charged a McPherson police officer and was shot. The person was transported to McPherson hospital and was subsequently declared dead,” said Marla Hawkinson, McPherson Police Department Executive Officer.

The KBI will investigate the case.

“Once we secure the scene, KBI takes over so that is why we don’t have any or a whole lot of details to give you at this time,” said Jeff Houston, McPherson City Attorney.

The officer involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave.

Police are not searching for any other suspect at the time.

As for the 18-year-old victim in the hit-and-run, she was taken to the McPherson hospital for treatment. She has been released.
