Sedgwick County Zoo’s oldest orangutan passes away

WICHITA, Kansas – The Sedgwick County Zoo announced that Tia, Sumatran orangutan, passed away early this morning due to age related health issues.

Tia was not only the oldest orangutan at Sedgwick County Zoo, but at the estimated age of 57, she was the oldest orangutan in an Association of Zoos and Aquariums accredited zoos in North America.

Tia came to the Sedgwick County Zoo in 1985 from Henry Villas Zoo in Madison, Wisconsin.

Tia gave birth to a male orangutan, called Panji.

The Wichita zoo acquired her in 1985.
