TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) – A conservative Kansas legislator wants another Republican running for the U.S. Senate to allow a poll to settle which one of them will take on U.S. Sen. Pat Roberts.

State Sen. Dennis Pyle of Hiawatha issued his challenge Tuesday to Leawood radiologist and tea party candidate Milton Wolf. Pyle proposed that he and Wolf finance a poll or approach news organizations about a poll of likely voters in the Aug. 5 Republican primary.

Wolf’s campaign did not respond immediately, but several tea party leaders sent Pyle emails urging him not to run.

Roberts is seeking his fourth, six-year term. Wolf has already filed to run against him for the GOP nomination, and Pyle announced last week that he’s considering the race.
