Man charged with shooting at three Salina police officers

SALINA, Kansas – A man who shot at three Salina police officers last Wednesday has been charged.

Jose Carrillo, 45, made his first appearance Tuesday in Saline County District Court.

He is charged with three counts of attempted first-degree murder, one count of criminal threat, one count of aggravated assault, and one count of domestic violence.

Police Captain Mike Sweeney says the officers were talking with a woman at a park across the street from the house where the disturbance was reported.

Carrillo approached with a rifle and began firing at the officers.

Two officers took cover as a third returned fired at Carrillo.

Carrillo was shot, and he was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

None of the officers were hurt.
