Salina police exchange fire with suspect

SALINA, Kansas – Salina police responded to a domestic disturbance that ended in an officer-involved shooting Wednesday afternoon.

It happened at Centennial Park, near the corner of Hemlock and Commanche Street.

As police were talking to a woman in the park, a man started walking down the street with a rifle toward the officers, according to Salina police Capt. Mike Sweeney.

The suspect started firing at the officers, and two officers took cover as a third returned fire at the man, who was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Sweeney said.

The suspect was hit and taken to Salina Regional Health.  He has non-life threatening injuries.

None of the officers were hurt.
