Wichita man killed in accident on Highway 50

HARVEY COUNTY, Kansas – The Harvey County Sheriff’s Department responded to a fatal accident on Highway 50 and Eastlake Road northeast of Walton Tuesday.

A Chevy pickup traveling in the westbound lane came into contact with an Acura Integra.

The Acura had been traveling in the eastbound lanes but crossed into the westbound lane. 

The driver of the pickup attempted to avoid the oncoming Acura.

The Acura hit the pickup on the rear passenger side causing it to swerve into the south ditch.

The pickup overturned onto its top.

The driver of the pickup, a 56-year-old Brian Kelly of Wichita, was entrapped in the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

His 22-year-old son, who was his passenger, was able to get out of the vehicle through the rear window.

The son suffered minor injuries. The driver of the Acura, a 31-year-old Andrea Becker of Wamego, was uninjured.

Traffic on Highway 50 had to be diverted around the accident scene.

The investigation into the accident is on-going.
