WICHITA, Kan. — There were many happy tummies Saturday at the 3rd annual Wichita Rib Fest.
“If you notice, pigs are always laying on the left side. We call them left overs cause its tough so were only cooking the right side. That’s why our ribs are so tender like a mothers love,” said Dallas Green, Cowboys BBQ (Texas).
Love and Hickory are definitely in the air for one of Wichita’s finger licking good events.
The 3rd annual Rib Fest has taken over part of Waterman Street, giving so far close to 7,000 people one tasty experience.
Now attending one of these events requires a good strategy. There are four award winning national BBQ vendors to choose from and each is offering something special.
“They’re all good, you don’t get no bad BBQ at a Rib Fest,” said Paige Alexander, an attendee.
But Paige and her husband had the perfect plan.
“My husband said go to the longest line and get in that line. That will be the line you need to be in,” said Alexander.
Christine Pileckas, the director of sales and marketing for Intrust Arena says the festival not only brings in good food, but contributes to our economy through the vendors.
“They stay in our hotel room, they eat in our restaurants when they’re not cooking their ribs , they purchase their meat locally,” said Pileckas
Green added that he hires locals to work for him during each festival and leaves 70 cents of every dollar with the city.
No matter your preference, sizzling grills, perfectly tossed garlic Parmesan fries and dancing babies giving a twirl, you can pretty much find it all at the Rib Fest, right down to the bone.
The last day to attend Rib Fest is Sunday.
