Ready to hit the road?

WASHINGTON (NBC News) – A near record number of Americans will travel this Memorial Day weekend.

AAA has released its annual Memorial Day Holiday Travel Forecast.

It predicts 36.1 million people will travel 50 miles or more during the holiday.

If that holds true that would make it the busiest Memorial Day weekend for travel since 2005, when 44 million Americans went away.

The survey found that an improving job market and a rise in disposable income is fueling the increase in travel plans.

AAA also found that more people are eager to get out of the house after an especially cold winter.
