Police search for suspects after late night shooting

WICHITA, Kan. — Police reported that a 24-year-old woman identified as Nichole Saldana, was shot in the head Tuesday night as she walked with her husband on E. Roseberry St. She was pronounced dead at a residence in the 3500 block of E. Roseberry.

Several shots were fired and police have been collecting evidence at the scene. Police say the shots did not come from a vehicle. They are asking for any witnesses to come forward with information on the case.

Police said the husband is not a suspect.

“When he heard the gunshots, he began to run. We believe the female victim began to run,” said Wichita Police.

Upon arriving on the scene, officers immediately began searching for a suspect or suspects to find out what happened.

A SWAT team was called to the scene a few hours later to search a home two doors down from where the shooting occurred.

They eventually used tear gas to attempt to get potential suspects to leave the home. When police entered the home a short time later they found no one inside.

Investigators are now processing the scene of the shooting and encouraging anyone that might know something to call homicide.

CrimeStoppers also says if this is a sensitive gang-related shooting, they can help by promising anonymity.

“In the 34 years CrimeStoppers have been in operation in Wichita and Sedgwick County, we have never once revealed the name of a tipster,” said Gordon Bassham, CrimeStoppers.
