BISMARCK, North Dakota (KFYR) – She’s calling what happened to her in a Walmart parking lot a miracle.
Thursday evening a woman gave birth at the South Walmart in Bismarck.
Alesia Medeiros was 34 weeks along when she went shopping at Walmart, and just before getting in her vehicle, stretched, and realized she was going to have her baby right then and there.
“I was kind of panicking and slightly embarrassed. I couldn’t believe I was having a baby in the parking lot of Walmart. Plus I knew I was 6 weeks early and so you know there’s always a concern any time you have a baby that early even when you are in a hospital,” says Alesia Medeiros.
A few bystanders came to her aid and called 911, then Kristen Rendulich walked by.
“She said, ‘Oh my gosh, it’s coming’ I guess I grabbed a sweatshirt out of the car and I got down there and I seen the head come out son once the head come out I just said ok you gotta push one more time and as she was pushing I grabbed the shoulders and kind of pulled as she was pushing and the baby came out and he was crying,” says Kristen Rendulich.
Alesia says she is thankful for everyone being in the right place at the right time.
“I got really lucky that not only were they there but everything that could have gone wrong didn’t,” says Medeiros.
And to top off this special delivery, it was Alesia’s 24th birthday.
The baby boy’s name is Diesel.
He’s doing fine, but he weighs only 4 pounds 14 ounces and is 17 and a half inches long.
He should be out of the NICU in about a week.
