DOTSERO, Colo. (AP) — The Colorado State Patrol says a trooper wounded in a shooting on Interstate 70 in western Colorado is being treated for serious injuries.

Garfield County Sheriff Lou Vallario tells KMTS-FM in Glenwood Springs that two troopers were shot at by a motorist they were trying to help in Glenwood Canyon on Thursday morning. The sheriff says one of the troopers returned fire and killed the suspect.

The injured trooper suffered serious blood loss and is being treated at Valley View Hospital in Glenwood Springs.

Authorities have not released the names of anyone involved in the shooting.

The investigation has closed I-70 in the area, forcing travelers to take long detours.
