HEARNE, Texas (AP) — Authorities say a 93-year-old Central Texas woman was fatally shot at her home by a police officer answering a call about a person with a gun.

Robertson County District Attorney Coty Siegert (SEE’-gert) says longtime Hearne (Hern) resident Pearlie Golden was shot Tuesday night by an officer responding to a 911 call about a disturbance involving awoman with a gun. Golden was affectionately known to her neighbors as Ms. Sully.

Siegert says Golden did have a gun.

City attorney Bryan Russ Jr. said it’s believed that the woman was told to drop the weapon, but wouldn’t. Russ says the officer has been put on paid administrative leave, which is standard protocol.

Hearne is a town of about 4,500, located 60 miles southeast of Waco.
