Nine rescued from fire by WPD, including gunshot victim

WICHITA, Kan. — Police were called to a home in the 1300 block of North Pershing Street at 4:10 a.m. Saturday morning. Officers were responding to a reported shooting.

Upon arriving at the scene, police saw that the house was engulfed in flames. Officers helped get people out of the home.

There was a total of nine people in the house and officers were able to get them all out.

While removing the people from the home, police discovered that a 27-year-old man had suffered a gunshot wound to the thigh. The man was taken to the hospital in serious condition. They said that the man was shot inside the home but does not live there.

Police said that don’t have great information on the suspect they are searching for but they do have a first name, however they would not release it.

WPD did say they are not sure at this time whether the fire or the shooting occurred first and whether or not the two are directly related.

The Wichita Fire Department is currently investigating the cause of the fire but believe it may have been arson.

KSN will update as more details become available.
