Highway patrol investigating a double fatal crash near Greensburg

GREENSBURG, Kansas – The Kansas Highway Patrol is investigating a double fatal crash on the intersection of Highway 54 and Highway 183 in Kiowa County.

The wreck occurred Wednesday morning at 3:30 a.m., one mile west of Greensburg.

The crash involved a FedEx truck and Chrysler 300. The car was driving northbound on Highway 183 and the FedEx truck was westbound on Highway 54. The Chrysler failed to yield right of way to the truck and was struck on the passenger side.

Both people in the car died and it was discovered that neither was wearing a seat-belt.

Wednesday afternoon the names of those involved were released by the Kansas Highway Patrol. Aurora Diane Balch, 35, and Donald Anthony Barrs, 27, both were in the Chrysler 300 and were pronounced dead at the scene. The two are from Weatherford, Oklahoma.

The driver of the FedEx truck, Anibal Ruiz-Figueroa, 58, had what KHP called possible injuries and refused transport to the hospital. Ruiz-Figueroa is from Stratford, Texas.
