WICHITA, Kansas – Much of the Kansas wheat crop is in poor condition according to officials.
Ag leaders spent Tuesday touring the northern and western part of the state.
They will be in the Wichita area Wednesday.
KSN’s Ag Expert, John Jenkinson, says they will find most fields in western Kansas not green and tall.
“There really isn’t much hope for this wheat crop. The tillers have already been out the opportunity for this wheat crop to recover is very very limited. Any rain we get now will not help yield at all.”
Jenkinson says farmers will have to rely on crop insurance to recover some of their costs.
They might not get it until next year.
