Helicopter crash caught on camera

ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico (KOB) – Albuquerque, New Mexico affiliate KOB has obtained video of the medical helicopter that crashed on the roof of UNM Hospital about two weeks ago.

The video shows the medical helicopter on April 9 after dropping off a patient at University of New Mexico Hospital.

Instead of going up, the chopper goes around and around.

About 12 seconds into the take-off, it’s clear there’s a problem.

At 17 seconds, the helicopter, with the pilot and 2 crew members onboard, crashes.

The helicopter goes every which way but up and then crashes…with its blades slicing into the roof.

There’s white smoke almost immediately. Then, black smoke.

Almost immediately, the fire suppression system on the roof kicks in.

Seconds later, you can see what looks like three people coming from the area where the helicopter just crashed.

Incredibly, no one was seriously hurt in the crash.

Three days later, a crane was brought in and the helicopter was moved off the roof of UNM Hospital.

Federal investigators now have the copter, trying to figure out why it did what it did.
