Thousands without power when pole snaps

WICHITA, Kansas – Westar says 5,800 people lost power in Wichita when an electric pole snapped.

It happened near 14th and Emporia Sunday morning when an 80 foot pole snapped.

“I heard just like a crack like a big limb or something broke and fell,” said John Moyer. “Then, I looked out the window I said what. How could this happen?”

According to Westar, strong winds could be to blame.

“Then after a while, it started sparking. Then, it caught on fire. Finally, they got out and put the fire out,” added Moyer.
