Man sentenced in fatal hit-and-run

WICHITA, Kansas – A Wichita man was sentenced Tuesday afternoon in connection to fatal hit-and-run accident that left a Wichita man dead and a little boy hurt in July 2013.

George Childers received 19 months for leaving the scene of accident and nine months for interfering with law enforcement.

The crash killed 50-year-old Lloyd Sonny Ferguson.

He was riding on horseback when they were hit not once but twice by a car.

Judge Joe Kisner ordered the sentences to be run consecutive so the total is 28 months in prison.

Police arrested Childers back in November.

They had arrested him once before, but the district attorney couldn’t formally charge them because they wanted more investigation work done. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
