LA CROSSE, Kansas – A fire Saturday morning damaged the La Crosse High School gym.

According to the Great Bend Post, the fire was reported just after 4 a.m. by the Rush County Sheriff’s Department.

Officials say the fire started in the gymnasium where preparations for prom had been underway. No one was in the school at the time of the fire.

School officials put out two tweets Saturday.

One said due to fire and smoke damage to the La Crosse High School gym, all prom activities have been moved to St. Michael’s Parish Center.

The other said due to safety issues and insurance company request, the La Crosse High School building is off limits until further notice.
