Wrong way chase caught on camera

ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico (KOB) – Dash cam video from New Mexico State Police released Monday captures the minutes before officers shot a man who was driving down the wrong side of I-25 near Las Vegas.

The incident occurred on January 4 on I-25 south in San Miguel County.

Nearly a hundred people called state police telling them about a wrong-way driver on I-25.

Just seconds later, we see the van drive past police.

Police tell the driver to pull the van over, but that doesn’t happen.

The driver is 72-year-old Albert Urban, from Hamburg, New York.

When Urban doesn’t obey, spike strips come out.

The first attempt fails, but the second try works.

Then, officers make their next move.

Police perform a pit maneuver, running the van off the road. The van flips and Urban drives into police officers.

An officer then gets out of his car and fired at Urban, striking him.

Albert Urban survived that shooting.

The Las Vegas Optic reports the district attorney dropped charges against him because doctors determined he was suffering from a disorder that may have been caused by Alzheimer’s or dementia.
