Elderly woman beaten with a bat in southwest Wichita

WICHITA, Kansas – Wichita police responded Thursday evening to a call for help and found an 86-year-old woman beaten in her home.

The assault took place in the 2600 block of South West St. around 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

The woman says her 53-year-old live-in son beat her with a baseball bat and cut her with a dull machete while threatening to kill her.

She was transported to St. Francis in serious condition with multiple broken bones and lacerations.

Her 53-year-old son was arrested.

He was arrested on charges of aggravated battery and domestic violence.
