1 dead after truck hits toll plaza

LAWRENCE, Kan. – One person died and another was injured when a tractor-trailer hit a toll plaza on Interstate 70 near Lawrence early Saturday morning.

The crash happened about 3:00 a.m. at the Kansas Turnpike’s east terminal.

The Kansas Turnpike Authority said the semi-trailer was westbound and hit the toll booths at highway speed.

Two people were in the truck at the time of the accident.

The driver of the semi was a 30-year-old male and was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger was a 25-year-old male and was taken to the hospital with injuries. Both men were from Aurora, Colorado.

The toll plaza was not manned at the time of the accident.

The crash is under investigation.
