ARLINGTON, Kansas — A train collided with an Dodge SUV Saturday in Arlington, KS.

Dispatch responded to the call shortly after 10:00 a.m.

The incident happened at K-61 and Fairview Rd. The SUV was being driven by Don Black, age 77, from Cheney that says he was on his way to an auction.

Black drove in front of a Union Pacific train traveling 55 mph. The SUV was struck on the driver’s side rear, causing it to spin off of the tracks.

Black suffered moderate injuries and was take to Hutchinson Regional Hospital to be checked out.

It was originally thought that the incident derailed the train when it hit its emergency breaks but it appears the only damage to the train was a couple of cars becoming uncoupled. They planned to reconnect the cars and continue on their way.
