Friends University president resigns

WICHITA, Kansas — After being named the president at Friends University in July, 2011, T.J. Arant has stepped down from his position. Dr. Darcy Zabel has been named the Interim President. The announcement was made by the Board of Trustees Chair, Dr. John Lewis on Tuesday.

Dr. Arant offered his resignation, effective March 21, during a special meeting of the board on Tuesday.

He expressed in a letter to the Board of Trustees that he intends to seek other opportunities moving forward.

“It has been my privilege to work with the faculty, staff, and Board to serve our students, and I leave with confidence that this steadfast and caring community will continue to thrive in the years ahead,” Arant wrote.

Lewis said the board is now looking toward the future.

“We are confident that Dr. Zabel will provide the leadership we need, to take the university through this transition,” said Lewis.

Dr. Zabel currently serves as the Vice-President of Academic affairs for Friends University and has been employed at the institution for more than 15 years.

“I am honored to serve as the Interim President of Friends University, and to be the first woman in the history of Friends University to hold this position,” said Zabel.
